Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) in British Columbia are licensed and regulated health care professionals dedicated to restoring and maintaining optimal health and pain-free function of the body. In our Cranbrook massage clinic, Ryan and Nicki work on the main floor, while Heather Walsh, RMT, operates from a separate clinic space in the lower part of the building—ask our staff for more information about her services.
All of our Cranbrook massage therapists are educated and trained to accurately assess and treat using techniques that include massage and manual therapy, joint mobilization, myofascial release, and rehabilitative exercise such as stretching, strengthening, postural exercise, and patient education. For quality massage therapy in Cranbrook, you can trust our team of skilled professionals.
Heidi trained in Alberta and holds the designation of NHPC (natural health practitioner of Canada), which means she is not able to bill extended health insurance in BC. As a part of her qualifications, Heidi has received extensive training in deep tissue massage, fascial release, and facilitated exercises, alongside history taking and orthopaedic assessments. Her expertise allows her to effectively treat pathologies of the entire muscular-skeletal system, making her one of the skilled massage therapists available for those seeking massage therapy in Cranbrook.
Here are some things that you may want to know about me and my practice as a Registered Massage Therapist in Cranbrook. I started my practice in October of 2006, initially working with my Mom, who ran her own Cranbrook massage practice for 17 years. After that, I transitioned to a local fitness club for three years, where my interest in sports injury and recovery really grew. Since January of 2010, I have been with the Kootenay Health Center, enjoying the supportive environment and the wonderful colleagues I work with. I am passionate about sports and athletics, with a range of experience treating athletes from amateur to professional levels. I am trained in the KinesioTex method of athletic taping, which has become an integral part of my massage therapy practice in Cranbrook for all of my patients.
I have been married since November of 2001 to my wife Lorelle, and together we have five lovely children (one boy and four girls) that add spice and enthusiasm to our lives. We love living in Cranbrook, especially during the summer when we can enjoy the nearby lakes.
Heather graduated from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 2022, where she completed over 2400 hours of learning. During her training, she gained clinical experience working on various conditions, including impingement syndrome, frozen shoulder, Thoracic outlet syndrome, overuse injuries, tension headaches, chronic pain, stress, and muscle tension. Additionally, she treated individuals with neurological conditions and spinal cord injuries.
Her long-time passion for health and wellbeing drew her to the field of massage therapy. Heather loves helping people and believes that massage is essential for maintaining healthy musculature, significantly reducing the impact that stress has on the body. Having personally benefited from massage throughout her life, she understands the difference it can make in enhancing overall wellness.
Heather approaches each patient with empathy, recognizing that she is treating an individual with specific needs rather than merely addressing a condition. She believes the best way to initiate treatment is by gaining an in-depth understanding of the underlying causes of the issue. Her treatment approach combines therapeutic techniques and relaxation, as she knows that relaxation can have a powerful effect on the nervous system, aiding in effective therapeutic treatment.
Her sessions may include a variety of modalities aimed at reducing pain, improving circulation, enhancing function, increasing range of motion, and promoting relaxation.
Outside of her work as an RMT in Cranbrook, Heather enjoys outdoor activities. She can often be found hiking, taking long walks with her dog, camping with her family, or foraging for edibles to prepare for dinner. Most notably, she loves watching her children play hockey and baseball.
