If you don't already have a prescription, Dr. Brereton can write one for you at your consult appointment. If your referring physician has already prescribed Monoferric, you will need to fill that prescription at your pharmacy and bring it with you on infusion day — the medication is not dispensed from our clinic.

Once your consult is complete and your medication is in hand, we'll book your infusion appointment in our Cranbrook IV therapy suite. The infusion itself typically takes around 60-90 minutes, followed by a short monitoring period with our registered nurse.

IV iron infusions cannot be given as a walk-in appointment. A pre-infusion consult must be completed and your Monoferric prescription must be filled before your infusion can be scheduled. This is a medical safety requirement, not just clinic policy.

You will need to schedule a 15-minute pre-infusion visit with Dr. Brereton to review your blood work, discuss your health history, and ensure IV iron is the safest and most appropriate option for you. You will also need to fill your Monoferric prescription at your local pharmacy before your infusion date.

Once both steps are complete, we will get your infusion scheduled at a time that works for you.

Our registered nurse will place a small IV and administer your Monoferric slowly over approximately 45-90 minutes. You'll be monitored throughout the infusion and for 30 minutes. Most patients feel comfortable during the process and return to their normal activities the same day.

Mild, temporary side effects can occasionally occur, including flushing, mild headache, or brief nausea. Serious reactions are rare. We will discuss all risks and benefits with you in detail at your pre-infusion consult so you can make a fully informed decision.
