Perinatal Chiropractic Care (Prenatal and Postpartum)

Pregnant person resting a hand on their abdomen

Pregnancy brings rapid changes to your posture, structure, and hormones, all of which shift the load on your spine, pelvis, and supporting ligaments. Our goal is to ease musculoskeletal stress, restore healthy pelvic mobility, and help you stay comfortable and active through every trimester and into your postpartum recovery.

Conditions and Symptoms We Help Manage

Pregnancy-related low back pain

Relieving the added strain on the lower spine as your centre of gravity shifts forward.

Pelvic girdle pain

Managing joint irritation, uneven loading, and pelvic instability, including discomfort around the sacroiliac (SI) joints and the pubic symphysis.

Sciatica and nerve pain

Addressing sharp, shooting, or radiating pain, numbness, or tingling in the buttocks and legs caused by muscle tension and changing alignment.

Postpartum recovery

Supporting the rehabilitation of your lower body while easing the upper back, shoulder, and neck strain that comes with nursing, lifting, and carrying your baby.

Our Approach to Prenatal Care

Our prenatal care puts your comfort and safety first. We use gentle, low-force techniques and positioning tailored to your stage of pregnancy. You are always in control of your care. We’ll walk you through each option so you can choose what feels right for you.

Pregnancy cushions and trimester-appropriate positioning

Your positioning is adjusted as your pregnancy progresses. Specially contoured prenatal pillows let you lie comfortably face-down during treatment without pressure on your abdomen.

The Webster Technique

A specific chiropractic assessment and adjustment of the pelvis and sacrum, designed to improve joint mobility and balance within the pelvis during pregnancy.

Drop-table and soft tissue techniques

A section of the treatment table drops slightly during the adjustment to absorb the force, making it very gentle. This is paired with targeted soft tissue therapy to relieve muscle tightness in the lower back, pelvis, hips, and glutes.

Instrument-assisted adjustments

Precise, low-force handheld tools such as the Activator deliver a controlled, gentle correction to specific joints, with no twisting or pulling.

Collaborative Care: Our Team Approach

Healthy parents are the foundation of a healthy family. Because pregnancy and the postpartum period benefit from well-coordinated care, our practitioners work together under one roof to support your changing body from every angle.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy

Chiropractic care improves the mobility and alignment of the pelvis and sacrum, creating a balanced foundation. This complements the work of our pelvic floor physiotherapist, who treats the muscles of the pelvic floor both internally and externally. Together, these therapies coordinate joint mobility with core strength, pressure control, and muscle tone for a more complete recovery.

Naturopathic medicine

Your structural health during pregnancy is closely tied to your overall well-being. Our naturopathic doctors support prenatal and postpartum nutrition, sleep, and hormonal balance. Combining this whole-body support with your chiropractic care helps your body adapt, recover, and thrive throughout pregnancy and beyond.

One coordinated plan

Our practitioners communicate directly with one another, so your alignment and recovery are monitored as a team. The result is safe, seamless care from pregnancy through postpartum.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

Chiropractic care is generally considered safe during pregnancy when provided by a trained practitioner. We use gentle, low-force techniques and modified positions that avoid pressure on your abdomen and twisting of the spine, and we adapt your care to your trimester. We’re always happy to coordinate with your midwife or physician.

When should I start chiropractic care during pregnancy?

You can begin at any stage. Some patients start in the first trimester to stay ahead of postural changes, while others come in later in pregnancy, when rapid growth places more stress on the lower back, pelvis, and sciatic nerve.

Can chiropractic care help with postpartum recovery?

Yes. Postpartum care helps your body transition back toward its pre-pregnancy state. We address the strain that comes with nursing, lifting, and carrying, while restoring mobility and supporting the recovery of your pelvis and spine.

How often will I need treatment?

Your visit frequency is personalized. It depends on your comfort, symptoms, physical needs, and goals, and we adjust your plan as you improve.

Megan Olver

DC

Dr. Megan Olver graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in 2002. Before turning to healthcare, she stayed active through competitive sports and danced professionally. While working in Vancouver for The Jim Pattison Group for four years, she was injured, and her own chiropractor helped her recover quickly and naturally. That experience inspired her to pursue chiropractic. She moved to Portland, Oregon, to attend the University of Western States, graduating summa cum laude with her Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2010.

Dr. Olver began her career in Vancouver, practising there from 2011 to 2012. She then moved to Vanderhoof, BC, where she owned and operated a busy multidisciplinary practice from 2012 to 2020. After practising in Chilliwack from 2020 to 2022, she and her family relocated to the East Kootenay, a place they are grateful to call home.

Dr. Olver is committed to providing exceptional chiropractic care in a friendly, positive, and professional environment. Her evidence-based, multimodal approach combines manual, instrument, and drop-table adjusting with soft tissue therapy and functional rehabilitation. She has advanced training in Active Release Techniques (ART), instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), and kinesiotaping, and draws on concepts from Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) in her rehab work.

Her years in competitive sport and dance give her a deep understanding of movement and mechanics, which she brings to her care of patients of all ages and abilities.

Dr. Olver has a special interest in paediatric and perinatal care. She is Webster Certified for prenatal care and has completed more than 200 hours of postgraduate coursework in paediatric chiropractic. Her treatments are designed to support the body through the mechanical changes of pregnancy, and to support children's growth and development from infancy through school age.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Olver loves spending time with her family and enjoying year-round outdoor recreation across the Kootenays. At home, she enjoys gardening, cooking, and yoga.
